Cinnamon Pull-Apart Bread

This is a such a simple recipe. You really just need 5 things. Biscuits, cinnamon, sugar, butter and brown sugar. That's it! The jumbo buttermilk biscuits can be purchased at Aldi for $1.29. The butter was around 70 cents for the whole box. Everyone has brown sugar, sugar and cinnamon on hand. (If not, you can get it cheap at Aldi!)

Just cut the biscuits into quarters.

Then mix the biscuits in a big bowl with cinnamon sugar.

Place the coated biscuits in a bundt pan. Drizzle a brown sugar and butter mixture over top.

Heat at 325 degrees for 45 minutes. And then enjoy while warm!

Here is the "official" recipe. (from Pillsbury)

Ingredients:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cans buttermilk biscuits
1 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 325°F. Lightly grease 12-cup fluted tube cake pan.

2.
In large plastic food-storage bag, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon. Separate dough into a total of 16 biscuits; cut each into quarters. Shake in bag to coat. Arrange in pan. Mix brown sugar and butter; pour over biscuit pieces.

3.
Bake 47 to 52 minutes or until golden brown and no longer doughy in center. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate; pull apart to serve. Serve warm.
For the best results, keep the biscuit dough in the refrigerator until just before you use it. Warm dough might get sticky and be hard to handle.

Berry Good

Strawberries were fresh and on sale at Aldi this week. Don't they look amazing?! They only cost $1.79 for the package. I'm sure they'll be even cheaper as the local Strawberry season gets closer.

Cookies!

My husband loves M&M cookies. I know, these are not M&M cookies. But they're still cookies, and they have little candy coated chocolate pieces in them that sort of look like M&M's. And they're pretty good! They kind of reminded me of a Chips Ahoy cookie. The price for these little gems? $1.89.

Happy Cola, Happy Me

I absolutley love these. I will most likely eat this whole bag in one sitting. (My dentist loves me...) Good thing it was only 89 cents at Aldi! (I found them last week at Christmas Tree Shop for $1. And I thought that was cheap!)

Bars on Sale!

Our family goes through multiple boxes of these cereal bars every week. They're normally cheaper than name-brand bars. But it just so happens that this week, they're even cheaper! They're $1.49/box. Wegmans brand bars are $2.29, and Kellogg's Nutri-Grain bars are $2.99. And guess what? Yup. They taste the same!

More Multigrains

Multigrain = Healthy eating. This bread has a serious amount of grain in it!

12 to be exact. And you can see most of them.

If the first ingredient is "Grains", then you know it's for real. And the price for this giant loaf of healthy multigrain bread at Aldi? $1.89.

Multigrain Chips

These tortilla chips are a huge favorite in our house. We're big "multi-grain" consumers. These chips are tasty and healthy.

Compare with regular potato chips or tortilla chips and decide for yourself! I know that along with the taste and the ingredients, the $1.69 price tag helps make my decision a lot easier!

Betty's Baked Mac n Cheese

* * * Update: ShopAldi has moved to a new home! Come visit us!  * * *

I really didn't mean to "dis" Betty Crocker in my cupcake post yesterday. I feel kind of bad about that. I really like Betty Crocker. I grew up with her cookbooks, and still have them. As a matter of fact, I still use them quite often. As I was making dinner tonight, I grabbed my favorite Betty Crocker cookbook to make my favorite Baked Mac and Cheese recipe. I realized that I used all Aldi products for the recipe! So look at that, Betty and Aldi can be friends.

And here is the "after" shot. This Baked Macaroni and Cheese is the absolute best ever. I promise! The infamous Betty Crocker recipe is below, but please be sure to use Aldi products! It tastes just as good as those name brand items, at a much cheaper price.

Betty Crocker's Baked Macaroni and Cheese
1 package (7 oz) penne macaroni (2 cups)
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp ground mustard
(I added 1/4 tsp onion powder too)

2 cups milk
2 cups shredded or cubed sharp Cheddar cheese (I used Aldi Shredded Mexican & Mozzarella)

Heat oven to 350°F.  Cook macaroni as directed on package. While macaroni is cooking, melt margarine in 3-quart saucepan over low heat. Stir in flour, salt, pepper, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth and bubbly; remove from heat. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minutes. Stir in cheese. Cook, stirring occasionally, until cheese is melted. Drain macaroni. Gently stir macaroni into cheese sauce. Pour into ungreased 2-quart casserole. Bake uncovered 20 to 25 minutes or until bubbly.

Fluffy Pink Frosting

I can't believe Easter is on Sunday. I will be making these fun "confetti" filled cupcakes for the big day! I love Aldi cake mixes and frosting. I'm hoping this one is just as great as the others! The frosting was 99 cents, the cake mix was $1.29. Sorry Betty Crocker, but you're much more expensive and I happen to like the "Baker's Corner" brand just  a little bit more than you...

Here's what I'm having for lunch this week. Delicious chicken salad sandwiches. Complete with a very yummy onion roll, lettuce and mayo. The can of chicken cost $1.49. (Makes about 3 sandwiches). Onion rolls are 6/$1.99. The lettuce is $1.29/head. Price for my lunch today: about 85 cents.

Franks and Beans

I haven't tried them yet, but this is one of our dinners this week. I'm kind of excited to try it. Not only is it healthy (it's "Fit & Active"!), but it was pretty cheap too! The package of Turkey Franks was only $1.29. The can of beans was $1.19. Even if we did eat the entire package of hot dogs, this meal would still be under $2.50.
